Books are a uniquely portable magic

Stephen King

Stephen King had it right. Books are very much form of uniquely portable magic. They can transport us to places we’ve never been, to places that don’t exist, that our imagination can just begin to see.

That would make writers the magicians. And while in reality, magic is misdirection and sleight of hand, writers create something out of nothing. An idea, a dream, becomes a reality on the page.

I’ve been returning to writing. It’s not easy with the full-time job of being Mom to a kiddo who seems to be nuclear powered. I wouldn’t trade her for the world, mind, but it’s hard to get into the mental space where the characters ( AKA the muses) live. I stepped away earlier this month from running the business that my husband and I have. Thankfully we were able to bring in others to take over my place, and that is something that I am grateful for.

Some days I still wish for a brain to the paper (digital or otherwise) device that wasn’t my arms. That or elves that wrote everything down while I slept. However, either is just as likely, so what’s a girl to do, right?

My magic has run up against obstacles. There are days where I wonder if it’s all worth it and do I deserve the hell that I’m being put through on what seems to be a random number generated schedule?

But, I digress. Progress is being made, and that’s good. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to put something up for Fiction Friday in the next while. No guarantees of course.

Now, I need to find my wand and my unicorn… anyone has seen them? 😉
